Cranial prosthesis services for eligible veterans are coordinated through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Approved services are authorized and paid directly by the VA. No out-of-pocket payment is required from eligible veterans.

A cranial prosthesis is a medically necessary hair replacement system prescribed for individuals experiencing hair loss due to medical conditions such as alopecia, chemotherapy, autoimmune disorders, or trauma.
How it works
The entire process should take no more than about four months, depending on the efficiency of each department.
Ask your VA Primary Care Provider for a referral to dermatology, unless you already see a specialty doctor (for example an Oncologist or Hematologist).
Ask your specialty doctor to send a cranial prosthesis consultation request to the Prosthetic Department. This is done annually.
Reach out once step 2 is complete, or anytime you run into hiccups moving forward.
JTJ coordinates with the Prosthetic Department on your behalf for status.
About one hour: we review your symptoms, take custom measurements of your head, and you choose your hair, texture, length and the most comfortable wig cap design.
Return to JTJ for final fitting, pre-installation and installation, plus hands-on training for wearing and maintaining your custom prosthesis.
Veteran benefits apply, so there is never a fee, copayment or payment by a Veteran for his or her annual cranial prosthesis.
